Company Exposure

Businesses that depend on agricultural commodities need to assess and manage their exposure to supply chain impacts that drive business risks. This includes investors with food and agribusiness companies in their portfolios. The chart below shows the commodity exposure of large, publicly traded, U.S. headquartered food and beverage companies and key suppliers, as publicly disclosed by them.i

While this chart is a starting point, further assessment is required to understand the commodity exposure of specific companies and how they are managing associated risks. For example, many companies do not list palm oil as a top commodity in their public disclosure, yet have instituted sustainable palm oil sourcing policies because impacts in the palm oil supply chain can present business risks even for companies sourcing at relatively low volumes.
